St Georges 7
Oakengates Rangers Colts under 11's - 2008/09 3

Cameron Rann (1)
Kelvin Williams (2)

The boys did well today, playing in a very stop start game with one incident after the other. Starting with a goal that was disallowed for the colts, that clearly went over the line, but not according to the oppositions linesman . Tension was high after this incident and play was stopped for a number of minutes in order for the ref to calm the situation, the boys waited patiently for play to begin again, obviously they were disappointed that their goal was not given , but they played on with their heads held high and continued to press forward, but unfortunately st georges scored. This didn’t help the feelings amongst the boys as they found themselves a goal down when really the score should have been even. But it wasn’t long before we scored, Cameron got on the end of Richards ball in the box and scored the equalizer ( nice celebration by the way!!) it didn’t last long though as St Georges went ahead again. This time is was Kelvin’s turn to equalizer and he did so from a great through ball from Cameron, Kelvin took it well and scored with confidence. But once again St Georges broke through our defence and scored, we carried on playing well, working as a team with midfielders Ryan W and Ryan S passing the ball around confidently and passing out to the wings when they could, Richard worked hard chasing loose balls and Amir was solid right in the middle clearing all the balls from defence. But once again Kelvin popped up with another equalizer a lone effort this time shooting from outside the box and beating the keeper. Once again we were level.

The defence struggled a bit today, St Georges are a very strong side going forward, and caught some players off guard a few times, but on the whole defence did well with Kieron keeping his position and clearing balls and Matthew, Beckhem, Ben and Niall doing their best and working the ball out of defence and up into midfield.

Unfortunately the game was then marred when the ref gave a goal to st Georges that seemed to foul the keeper. Our keeper Rhys seemed to have the ball, when the st Georges player kicked it into the back of the net, the ref gave the goal but our keeper then had to be subbed due to a swollen wrist where the player caught our keepers hand, So Rhys came off after a good performance today making some good saves. The boys heads were low after this incident and a long pause of the game as we had to put an outfield player in goal, the boys just couldn’t get going again and unfortunately we let 3 more goals in.

The boys should be proud of themselves today, the game was stopped a few times for different reasons, but some of our players put in excellent performances and could not be faulted.
