Well at the end of last season we stated in the Managers Review that it would only get better and I think you'll all agree that the team has helped us deliver on that promise for this year!
The kids must feel like a gang of young pirates with the amount of Gold, Silver and Bronze that they've all won this season with not only tournament trophies from the summer of 2008, but also the proud winners of the League Championship for 2009 and finally a sprinkling of awards at the Team Quiz Night and Club Presentation Evening earlier this month.
We feel that the team has matured a lot this year, as the existing core members from last year were strengthened with the introduction of new players which has not only improved the depth of the squad and increased the skill base but has also seen the longer standing team members improve
their own all round performance.
Training and discipline were also taken to the next level as we wanted to implement improved standards and again we think we are seeing the benefits of that as the training ground routines are mirrored in match play. The summer break from football in 2008 was also kept short to ensure that we kept the players playing week in week out, in tournaments and friendly games and we will be aiming to repeat this for the summer of 2009.
We believe that the standard of football for this year has been at a very high level especially compared to the previous year. Some of the passing and moving that the team are now capable of, especially in the attacking third of the pitch is why we finished top goal scorers of our division.
The team have come a long way in such a short space of time, which not only bodes well for the future but also gives us the confidence that if we can keep the current team together and bring in even more quality players for the 09/10 season, that we can only get better and go on to achieve even more success than we have this year.
One of the things that often goes unsaid but is just as important as anything that the Management team do is that we have a great group of children within the team that all get on which is also supported with a close knit group of parents which does the team proud! We can't do it
without you all!
We’re both very proud of all of the players and parents for what’s been a fantastic second season for us all and long may it continue!
